When it comes to bright hot and hazy summer days, does your Skincare/Make-Up routine require adapting, as to not cause havoc on the face? I think most would tend to agree that what suits our skin during the winter or colder months, would be adapted or swapped for lighter products during the warmer, hotter months?
With combination skin, I find my requirements change quite often! Especially when it’s really hot! For summer, I prefer much lighter products and tend to keep the routine as simple as possible. My summer skin goals are to find light hydration, not block the pores and allow the skin to breathe as much as possible whilst keeping shine to a minimum!
After cleansing and toning I use a lightly moisturising mist spray and tap it on to the skin, I’ve one from Caudalie, which is made with 100% Organic Grape Water and is so gentle & refreshing. I like the concept of a good mist; you can use them any time of day to freshen up and awaken the skin. Suitable for pretty much any skin type too being so light, even useful over make up in the winter for a quick mist of hydration.
Hydration boost > I’ve been using a product by Clinique called Moisture Surge Hydrating Water Gel concentrate. And totally love it! Being super light it absorbs straight in & leaves the skin looking and feeling so nicely hydrated all day long. You only need a small amount & for those with sensitive skin too, this product is allergy tested, 100% fragrance free, non-acnegenic and oil-free, It doesn’t feel sticky or leave any residues.
Light moisture layer > In the spirit of keeping it light and simple; I have covered this one in previous posts. Yet, for those who may have missed it. Another product by Caudalie, from the Vino Source range > Moisturising sorbet cream. This is a super light moisturiser, with gentle soothing and hydrating ingredients (Chamomile, Organic Grape water & Antioxidants). You can use this as a mask for the evenings too.
SPF! > I know, this step defies the very principle of light layers but for me and I do believe it should be for everyone! A vital step, not just for the summer! SPF protection can prevent premature ageing and keep the skin elastic and hydrated. I’m loyal to my Ultra-sun Factor 50+ a little goes a long way but be sure to leave to dry for 30 mins before applying make up!
Summer Colour > When it comes to make up I switch from regular foundation, to a lighter BB cream, or similar. However, for my skin-tone shades can be a bit limited and it’s been a real case of hit and miss! Bare Minerals offer good colour variations & I use #08 Spice from the Complexion Remedy Hydrating Tinted Cream Gel range. It’s perfect for my Medium Toned Skin. The product is hydrating, whilst being really light. Still with a decent amount of coverage & a subtle illuminating glow, I really like the dewiness of this product. Yet, My skin can get a bit shiny so I finish up with a little loose translucent powder, the base is now complete!
