I confess! There’s something a little indulgent about receiving a beautifully packaged box each month filled with unknown skincare/cosmetic treats inside! From dabbling with the Look Fantastic box last year, I decided to suck it up and renew the subscription! Why? Because I really liked the mix, from really well-known names to the smaller & more independents that otherwise, I may never have considered before. Plus, I also received products like a mini Eve Lom cleansing balm (last year) which was, simply amazing!
THE (NEW LOOK)? #JANUARY EDITION
So, what’s new? Honestly, I am not entirely sure! I don’t see anything aesthetically that different? Perhaps the box itself is a little thinner than its counterparts? Or new in style now only using block colours or something? Aside from that, it appears classically to the #lookfantastic style?
SO, WHAT’S INSIDE? LET’S GET TO THE CONTENT…
‘’Congested Skin Serum’’ – My skin fits the description! Product claims are ‘’a lightweight serum for flawless skin, suitable for combination skin types… As well as removing all imperfections, keeping skin hydrated & glowy, with Key ingredient Kanuka Oil, a natural antimicrobial & anti-bacterial that helps calm inflammation & redness’’ It’s a bit too soon to be able to give a detailed review. I do like that it is a lightweight formula, feels fresh on application & doesn’t clog up my pores. Whilst feeling very gentle on contact with my skin. Personally I prefer using this before applying serum! As a standalone product I don’t feel it provides enough hydration to be effective as a serum (for me). Perhaps for the summer this would suite purposes better. The product size being very small at 7 ml, I’m not convinced it will last long enough to provide any real or lasting effect. I like it, but I wouldn’t repurchase this one.
‘’Warming Ginger Bath & Body Oil’’ Containing Ginger, Lemongrass & Orange – I really like the way this smells, reminding me of being in a spa environment! Which is exactly how this product is marketed. ‘’Apply a few drops to the bath for deep relaxation, or directly on to the skin after showering’’ (my rendition is to mix a bit in with my regular body moisturiser to give an little extra boost!). ‘Feeling a bit tight after a gym session? Apply directly to tight muscles for a bit of relief’’ I like how this oil is quite thick, it suits my very dry winter skin. I’ve also tried dabbing a couple of drops to my neck area after working out as this is where I can feel a bit tight sometimes, so I like how soothing & warming it is. This one is a win, also with key natural ingredients being something I always appreciate.
‘’Pink Hair & Scalp Mask’’ – An intensive hair treatment containing Rose Paste (for conditioning & moisture). With minerals that promote a good hair & scalp balance. Also, with Vitamin C, Red Clay & Apricot Kernel Oil. This has no nasties inside, clean in it’s make up and I think I will enjoy using this one.
‘’White Tea Fluid Gel Cleanser’’ – Here’s a brand that I’ve been keen to try for a while now, a Greek brand with a clean & simple approach. This cleanser hasn’t exactly exceeded my expectations, it’s a basic foaming cleanser but, I do like how gentle it is, also that this doesn’t irritate my skin in any way which is always good. ‘’88.3% natural, with main ingredient White Tea extract – natural antioxidant protection & toner for the skin’’ This is a bit of a dual product that can also be used to take of makeup too. I guess with sample sized products it’s hard to fully gage effectiveness but, I would consider purchasing from this brand.
ERNO LASZLO TONER
‘’Light controlling lotion’’ This has amazing claims, with equally great reviews online! ‘’Suitable for acne & oily skin types with enlarged pores – soothing & calming’’ Hmmm! This product for sure contains alcohol! Which for me especially during times of flair ups (skin sensitivity), is the worst ingredient I could ever put to my face! Simply, it messes up the moisture balance & my skin felt dry, almost stripped after using! I’ll reuse the packaging & fill with one of my own (gentle alcohol free) toners for when travelling! Sorry guys, if this is your thing? This really doesn’t work with my skin type which is interesting as, I fit the target market with oily combination & acne prone issues!
‘’3D Lash Primer’’ – Now here’s something that I’d never consider purchasing myself, at first, unsure if I’d use it! But, having to test it out, I can say that this is quite effective. Do you remember years ago when Bourgeois released that dual wand mascara? One end was white? The other regular mascara? This product reminds me of the that (minus the mascara part). It’s a primer for your lashes so you apply this before you would mascara. I find my mascara sits very well with this as a base and seems to dry on a bit quicker (minimising any smearing on to my eyelid!). I have quite long, yet fine lashes so, I like the volume this product provides without looking over the top.
My overall opinion of this month’s box; despite some useful and interesting products I otherwise wouldn’t have considered purchasing, I’m happy to have them. Yet, In comparison to former months I can’t help but feel it’s a bit poor if truly honest! With not even one full sized product! The January box has been a little disappointing. Still, I do have high hopes for next month and know that Look fantastic can deliver more so fingers crossed for February & watch this space for more!
